 The City of Crossville is now accepting applications for an Entry Level Police Officer.  Applications will be accepted through the Department of Labor, Tennessee Career Center, located at 60 Ridley Street.  Applications will be accepted through the close of business on December 12, 2016. A written test will be given at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 in the Crossville Police Department Training Room, located at 99 Municipal Avenue. With the return of completed application, a study guide will be provided for the written test. There will be a physical agility test given at 12:00PM on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Old National Guard Armory building located behind Central Office (formerly Crossville Elementary School). Applicants must make at least 75% on the written test in order to participate in the agility test.  Applicants must wear appropriate clothing to take the physical agility test. Applicants will be placed on a roster after completion of both sections of testing. Appropriate candidates will be contacted for interviews. The Entry Level Police Officer position will start at an annual salary of $27,540.98 for a non-certified officer and $30,700.80 for a certified officer. This is a full time position and includes all of the benefits offered by the City of Crossville.    


 1.      Be at least 21 years of age.

2.      Be a citizen of the United States.

3.      Be a high school graduate or possess a GED. No waivers will be granted for minimum education requirements.

4.     Never been convicted of, pled guilty to, or entered a plea of Nolo Contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of Federal or State laws or City Ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substance.

5.      Never been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States.

6.      Have his/her fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

7.      Pass a  post-employment offer physical and drug screen by a physician chosen by the City of Crossville.

8.      Be of good moral character as determined by an investigation conducted by the City of Crossville.

9.     Be free of all apparent mental disorders as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition (DSM-II) of the American Psychiatric Association.

10.   Pass a psychological exam by a psychiatrist or psychologist appointed by the City of Crossville.

11 If applicant is un-certified they must be able to attend and complete the Basic Police Academy.

The City of Crossville (pop. 11,246) is seeking resumes for the position of Chief of Police.  Under executive direction of the CIty Manager, the Chief of Police is responsible for planning, directing, implementing and evaluating the activities of the police department.  Responsibilities include recruitment and selection of personnel, formulation of policies and procedures, and preparation of an annual budget.  The ideal candidate must be P.O.S.T. certified and possess a Bachelor's degree in Police Science, Public Administration, Criminal Justice or related field; candidate will have served as Chief, or Assistant Chief, a minimum of 3-5 years.  Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the person with the knowledge and abilities required to perform the job may substitute for the above, at the discretion of the City.  Consideration will be given for FBI National Academy and/or Southern Police Institutes and FBI Leeds graduate.  Salary will be a minimum of $57,057.53 and negotiable DOQ/DOE.  Position will also include a comprehensive benefit package.  Other requirements include:

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee operator's license or obtain such
  • Must reside within Cumberland County, or move into Cumberland County within 90 days of employment
  • Meet annual P.O.S.T. in-service requirements
  • Must have completed P.O.S.T. Law Enforcement Management and Administration training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Must be examined by a City designated physician to make a determination if applicant will be able to meet the physical standards of law enforcement personnel
